Weatherby Foundation International
serves as the sole sponsor of the prestigious Weatherby Hunting and Conservation
Award (formerly known as the Weatherby Big Game Trophy Award).
First presented in 1956, the Weatherby Award annually recognizes an individual
for outstanding support of wildlife conservation, lifetime hunting achievement
and dedication to the principles of ethical sport hunting. Recipients
of the award are honored among their peers as one of the worlds
premier sportsmen/ conservationists.
In addition to sponsoring the award, Weatherby Foundation International
makes a $5,000 donation to a wildlife conservation organization in honor
of the winner.
The winner of the Weatherby Hunting and Conservation Award is recognized
at a formal dinner. The award is typically presented by a celebrity or
other person of note in the hunting/outdoor community. Past presenters
include Senator Barry Goldwater, Roy Rogers, General Chuck Yeager, General H. Norman Schwarzkopf and former President George H.W. Bush.
The dinner also serves as a major fundraiser for the Foundation.
